Fishing Adventure

Last night, Bethany, Bradley, Evelyn, and I took Katelyn, Daniel, and Ryan Benson fishing at Highland Lakes in Northville, MI. Bradley and I have been fishing there for quite some time now. We always catch at least 10 bluegills when we go (and sometimes 15 or 20). I've also caught 1 little 7" bass there, and a 12" painted turtle (on a hook/worm!). The little fish there are so easy to catch. It's great if you are an impatient fisherman like me. You won't land many big whoppers, although I have seen a couple bass that are over 12".

Last night was no different. Under my Master Angular Tutelage, Katelyn caught two bluegills and Daniel caught two bluegills and one 7" bass (probably the same one I caught four weeks ago!). But the most successful angular of the night was none other than Mr. Ryan Benson! He caught 3 bluegills and a turtle! The video below shows just after we brought the turtle out of the water, with the hook still in his mouth.

Daniel promised he'd give me his entire collection of Bionicles if I ate the turtle's tail.

Daniel, thanks for the Bionicles. They are so much fun!

That's awesome, Justin! Thanks for posting this! The kids will always remember this fishing trip with Uncle Justin and Aunt Bethany. I asked Katelyn if you got a chance to do any fishing, and she said, "Well, he was mostly helping the whole time." I can imagine! What a great uncle you are!

I think the smile on Ryan's face is priceless! It says it all.

Did you ever get the hook out of the turtle's mouth?

Yeah, it just went through its lip. The 12" turtle I caught a few weeks back unfortunately swallowed the hook pretty deep, but we were able to get that hook out too.
